NEBS, TREG and EMC-PSTC Archives back online

The NEBS, TREG, and EMC-PSTC Archives are back online! (NEBS stands for Network Equipment Building System and TREG stands for Telecom Regulatory E-mail Grapevine). They are posted on the IEEE EMC-PSTC Virtual Community at https://www.ieeecommunities.org/emc-pstc.

In order to view the EMC-PSTC archives, please follow these steps:

  1. GO here and login:  https://www.ieeecommunities.org/emc-pstc/
  2. The next page should be the IEEE EMC-PSTC Forum. Scroll down the page and, on the left hand side, click on the link to NEBS, TREG, EMC-PSTC Archive.
  3. On the new page, below the IEEE banner is a light blue box with NEBS, TREG, EMC-PSTC Archive labeled in it. Below this box is a gray box that contains the following buttons:

Add New Active Archive Search Subscriptions Help

Click on the underlined Archive button.

  1. The new page is an index of the various archive files stored. Note these are called Mailing Lists. Click on the underlined Mailing Lists link to sort this page. Click again and the EMC-PSTC files will be at the top of the list.
  2. Click on any mailing list to open it up. Note this can take some time, depending on your connection speed and the archive you choose. Note each message has a date it was sent. This date could be right, or it could be the date the message was imported into the archive.
  3. When doing searches, remember to de-select the Date Range (updated date) boxes as the message may not have the date you expect.

Virtual Community:

Membership to the virtual community is free. The virtual community is located at https://www.ieeecommunities.org/emc-pstc.  If you are already a member you can log on there or, if you are not already a member, please go there to join.

As of 15 November 2004, IEEE members who participate in the IEEE Online Communities will be able to use their IEEE Web accounts to login.  If you do not yet have an IEEE Web account, you can register for one at http://services1.ieee.org/membersvc/registration/intro.htm for IEEE Members and at http://shop.ieee.org/IEEEStore/signin.aspx?returnURL=default.aspx for non-members (click on the link to "All other valued customers").

This applies to both IEEE members and nonmembers since the login to the communities will require an IEEE Web Account.

To make the Web account login enhancement as seamless as possible, please update your main online community profile with your Web account login name and password. If you are an IEEE member, please include your member number in the profile as well.

This can be done by:

  1. Logging in as usual at http://www.ieeecommunities.org.
  2. Clicking on the "Edit Profile" link on the main page.
  3. Adding the IEEE Member Number to the designated field.
  4. Changing the User Name to the IEEE Web account user name.
  5. Clicking on the "Update Account" button at the bottom of the page.
  6. Back at the main page, click on the "Change Password" link.
  7. Enter the current password and the Web account password in the designated fields and click the "Change Password" button.

More detailed instructions can be found in the IEEE's Web Account Usage On Communities presentation (PDF 580K).

Once you're in the community, all you need to do to view the NEBS, TREG and EMC-PSTC Archives is follow these simple steps:

  1. Click on the "NEBS, TREG, EMC-PSTC Archives" tab in the left hand blue navigation bar.
  2. In the horizontal gray navigation bar, click on "Archive" to view the list of archived mailing lists.
  3. Search for content. Click on the "Search" button located in the
horizontal gray navigation bar to search specific terms across all mailing lists or specific mailing lists OR click on the individual lists to browse for content.
  4. Contact Jim Bacher at if you have any problems using the archive.

This Forum is operated by the Product Safety Engineering Society, formally the Product Safety Technical Committee of EMCS. The Forum was founded to discuss safety issues. We also discuss product EMC and other regulatory issues.  The forum is the primary means of communication for PSES.  In the future PSES will sponsor a members only section with newsletters, articles, and other resources for Product Safety professionals.
